Albany named "All-America" City
The National Civic League has selected the City of Albany as one of its ten “All-America” cities—the first City in New York State to be so named in the past five years.
Over 300 communities applied for this prestigious award, with 30 finalists being chosen, and, ultimately, 10 cities being designated.
The purpose of the competition is to recognize the best, brightest, and most innovative communities in the country.
The National Civic League was founded by Theodore Roosevelt, Louis Brandeis, Frederick Olmstead, among others, to recognize communities that exemplify good government, civic engagement, diversity and inclusiveness.

In addition, the City of Albany was recently awarded the 2009 City Livability Award—Outstanding Achievement, by the United States Conference of Mayors.
