Albany's Art Festival

Despite the rain, there was plenty to enjoy at the 15th Annual Art on Lark! Check out what people had to say about this year's event....
This year the Lark Street Business Improvement District was proud to present the 15th Annual Art on Lark 2011 on Saturday, June 11th. Art on Lark is Albany’s Premier Arts Festival drawing over 25,000 attendees in 2009 and named “Best Arts Event” in the Times Union Readers Poll in 2009 and 2010. It is the 2nd largest street festival in upstate New York, second only to LarkFEST! This event is host hundreds of artists, musicians, dance and theatre performances, one-day installations, and many more special events that will showcase Lark Street as Albany's Arts District.
2011 Features
The Marketplace Gallery & Living Walls
The Marketplace Gallery and Living Walls took over Hudson Avenue between Lark and Willett at Art on Lark. Several artists created an enormous “living walls” mural right at the event. Living Walls: Albany is a project designed to raise awareness about the use of public space. It is about exploring options that a smaller city like ours has in terms of bike commuting, sustainable energy options, urban gardening, rebuilding and/or reclaiming buildings as opposed to demolishing them. The Living Walls project is intent on creating an open dialogue between the people and city.
Underground Art Exhibition & Chefs Consortium
The buildings formerly occupied by Planned Parenthood were transformed into a one-day “Pop-Up Gallery” packed with Art and Artists. The Underground Art Exhibition was presented in conjunction with Albany Underground Artists co-founder Chip Fasciana & will featured over 20 artists. In addition to the art, the space was also host to the Chefs Consortium, an organization of professional chefs in the Hudson Valley who advocate for sustainable farming and food production practices, buying locally, and nutritional education for students, parents and government.
Youth FX Film Series
The Planned Parenthood space also played host to the Youth FX Film Series by the Grand Street Community Arts Youth Film program with multiple showings throughout the day. The Youth FX program is an intensive six week summer program for teens to learn, hands-on, about the digital filmmaking process from start to finish. The teens conceive, write, direct, star in, and edit the films.

Albany Center Gallery
The Albany Center Gallery will have an outdoor gallery right on Lark Street featuring paintings, photography, sculptures, live painting and other surprises.
